You and me on the way to Camera Obscura, at Ballyknocken Cooking School, and at Dublin Zoo (with the kids running around somewhere)
I loved the Me & You link up when I first spotted it on Tigerlly Quinn and have been meaning to do it for months now, but am only just getting around to it. I think that kind of sums up what being the parents of small kids can do to your relationship, it can suck up all the time you once had for each other. It is so hard sometimes to find moments to connect. After the kids have been put to bed, toys are picked up, dishes are washed, dinner is cooked for the next day, and laundry is done there’s not too much time for anything else. You can get into ruts and can forget to nurture the love that brought you together to create a family in the first place.
We’ve hit a really hard patch with the kids in the past few months, both boys hitting peak tantrum stages has wiped us out. That on top of all the other stresses in adult life (money, work, learning to drive) leave very little space for anything else. But now as Nate is coming round the bend to be his sweet self we can take a deep breath and focus on us a bit. We have quite a bit of fun planned for just the two of us this summer thanks to a few contests I’ve won recently we are going out, going away and seeing some shows all without kids.
The funny thing is, I’m writing this as Chris is away in the UK for work. It’s really not that different to my daily routine, but I totally miss his company in the evenings and realised that I kind of take it for granted. It’s nice having him around.
